Sonder began as a wild idea. At least, that’s what Michelle thought when she heard it from Jill, via a text message.

Sonder co-owners Michelle Kauczka and Jillian Schenzel had an immediate connection, the kind of bond that is rare to find in adult friendships. Both seasoned vets of the food and beverage industry; Michelle in distribution and Jillian as a restauranteur, quickly realized that in addition to a friendship there might also be a business opportunity for them!

I think we should open a wine bar.

That was the text that started it all. The conversations that became Sonder centered on our shared vision: to create a more inclusive space for wine lovers; a place where novices and experts alike would feel comfortable and welcome. A place where every wine journey, no matter it’s winding or straight path, was celebrated.  

We’re convinced that ideas and experiences are more powerful when shared with others, especially when those ideas and experiences are shared around a bottle of wine and yummy food, with a great friend. We hope to join wine lovers on their journey, while guiding them to discover new and exciting flavors that they might never have experienced.
